The Resistance begins with
'Uprising', the punchy, UFO propaganda
themed, 80s styled song and slowly moves onto
'Resistance' which starts of with a slow spacey sound, and suddenly changes rates with the help of Dom on the drums, and with the help of the chorus it soon changes into a completly different styled song to which it started.
'Undisclosed Desires' is next, ill be honest before the album came out i previewed a 30 second snippet on muse.mu...it had me thinking...it was TOTALLY different to what muse had already produced.
Next up is
'United States of Eurasia(+Collateral Damage)' with help from the arabic scale it is formed into a astounding musical piece with a beautiful ending of Chopins Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 (in E flat major) with almost ''Spooky" sounds of children playing and a fighter jet flying overhead.
The sound of the jet slowly creeps into
'Guiding Light', the gloomy atmosphere is suddenly brightnened with this feel-good, passion-laden power ballad.
My highly liked of the lot
'Unnatural Selection' is next, bringing a guitar-riff filled, consparicay laden peice, dominating the album with use of the might of Bellamy’s vocals.
Then follows
'MK Ultra' named aptly after Project MK-ULTRA, or MKULTRA, which was the code name for a covert CIA mind-control and chemical interrogation research program, run by the Office of Scientific Intelligence. "If the Pope betrayed religion and had an affair with an android in a church in some floating space colony" is the style and basis of MK Ultra.
Now the less fun, more serious tone of
'I Belong To You (Mon Coeur S’Ouvre A Ta Voix)' which uses parts of Mon Coeur S’Ouvre A Ta Voix, originaly sung by Camille Saint-Saëns's opera-Samson and Delilah. The wispy strings and vintage clarinet boast romance in a time of tension.
Exogenesis is the story of Earth and all its living inhabitants using up the worlds resourses and having to venture to outer space to find another suitable planet to live upon.
Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1 (Overture)The overture begins with a soft introduction, very reminiscent to intros in old films. Matt’s falsettos seem to display pain and sadness; the vocals are indecipherable but are not a big issue. The strings are captivating and the rough guitar creates a scene of a painful sunset. Irregularity of the song tells a vague story that you want to understand but can’t. It ends with falling arpeggios which leads nicely onto the “Cross-Pollination”.
Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1 (Cross-Pollination)
Cross-Pollination starts of with heavy fast paced paino, leading into a slow progressive song giving the idea of a painful story of heartbreak. Soon moving into a more melodramatic moment of feeling lost and disillusioned. Cross-Pollination breakes in the middle with a heavy distoted guitar-riff signalling distruction, yet a ''light at the end of the tunnel'' type story.
Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1 (Redemption)
Redemption is the end of the Exogenesis saga, like the end of a vingage film it ends with light and apologetic chords on the paino and violin. Then in the middle it turns to a more fast paced piece played on octave higher on the piano with lyrics such as
''Let's start over again,
Why can't we start it over again,
Just let us start it over again,
And we'll be good, This time we'll get it,
get it right,
It's our last chance to forgive ourselves''
Suggesting a 'Redemtion' as the title suggests, we have found a
planet and are striving to do the right thing this time.
The Resistance is simply amazing, it covers almost every genre
and tells many storys with strong messages and big controversy issues.I LOVE IT!!!!
